It's not like I'm one of those people who hate winter and can't wait for summer to arrive. I actually love this season with the coziness, cold noses and warm scarves (no hats! never hats on this curly head). But when I see what's happening on my window sill, I get excited for spring. What you see growing here are tomatoes, eggplants and some flowers. We're going to 're-do' (or actually, just properly 'do') our garden, so there's more to come.
Another thing I'm obsessed with these weeks: sewing! I've dabbled into a lot of crafts over the years, but sewing was never really one of them. Sometimes I had to, for some project or other, but sewing machines and me didn't quite get along. It takes some practise to figure out how the machine works and how to get that seam straight and I just never had to time or patience to get into all that. But I'm working on some new projects that required a sewing machine and skills to go along with it, so I decided to take sewing lessons! i know there are a million sewing tutorials out there, but I liked the idea of having someone around to ask questions and to show me some tricks. As a side effect, it forced me to carve out a few mornings and really set time aside to start sewing.
For those who are interested and in the Utrecht area: I took lessons with Anneliese from Analysed and highly recommend it.
I even started to 'design' some of my own fabric for some easy starter projects. More on that later!
It's finally time to reveal the 'secret project' I/we have been working on for the last 2 months! Actually, it all started a year ago when for some reason I wanted to design a moose Christmas decoration. So I drew one and thought it was pretty neat. Then, my girlfriend stepped in with her drawing skills and designed one that was way cuter and prettier. I cut them from some thin wood, put some fabric on them and the Mushymoose was born! We received so many compliments that we decided to make a whole batch of them. If they didn't sell, fine, we'd just decorate our own tree with 120 mushymooses.
Well, that's probably not going to happen. We put them online about 2 weeks ago and already sold over 60 of them. Including an order of 20 gold ones! It's so funny to think that this little design we created together is now traveling places and decorating trees all over the world. We're probably going to need to order a new batch soon and possibly even introduce another Christmas decoration design. Thanks so much to everyone who ordered them!
The last couple of weeks I've been working on a secret project! It's actually something that I started with my girlfriend last Christmas as a kind of joke, but people around us really seemed to like the idea and design. So this year, we're trying to take it to the next level! Hopefully the result will be in the shop in October, after we get back from our holiday.
This weekend I spent the entire Saturday in a meeting. Not as bad as it sounds, but unfortunately not creative-stuff-related. So, today (Sunday) I planned some time to work on a few projects. We've actually been working on this mosaic table for quite a while, but I made a miscalculation in the amount of tiles we needed. So I had to order new ones and they took weeks to be delivered....not much fun for an impatient person like me. But we're getting somewhere now! Here are a few previews:
I actually already hacked a LACK Ikea table a few years back by building a mosaic on top of it. But as you can see below, it's becoming a little grubby and bits of grout are falling off.
So, time for a new one! This one is going to live outside and will hopefully host many lovely summer dinners. Once we finish it anyway...so that might be next summer. Oh well.
